Frequently Asked Questions About Walk With The Animals

1. How are the contributions put to work?

Northwoods Humane Society is a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization. All proceeds will go toward supporting the over 1200 animals we care for each year. This includes the medical costs such as emergency care, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering every animal before it goes to its new home. Proceeds also allow the shelter to be heated, cooled, lighted, and overall in good condition to house large numbers of cats and dogs.

2. What are the benefits to participating in Walk With The Animals?

Not only do you get to spend a fun day with your pets, or simply stand back to enjoy seeing so many loved pets, but you also can go home knowing that you made a difference in the lives of homeless animals in your community. Your support is what allows Northwoods Humane Society to continue its work.

5. Do I have to pre-register for the Walk?

You are not required to pre-registration but we do recommend doing so to ensure that you get your Walk T-Shirt in the size you want.  Pre-registration for the event has closed BUT you can still register at the event.

Registration will begin at 10:00. This is where you will turn in your pledges. Even if you have collected pledges online, please be sure to register at the Walk in order to receive your fundraising PRIZES.

5. Do I have to walk the entire 1.5 miles?  Can I walk more than 1.5 miles?

You can walk as far as you’d like!  The walk is approximately .75 miles up and .75 miles back, with a water station (for you and your animal) at the mid point. However, you can turn around at any time.

6. What will happen if the weather is bad?

The Walk will be held rain or shine!

7. How do I begin raising funds?

You can begin raising funds online, off-line, or both.

  • Click HERE to start collecting pledges online with your very own personalized fundraising page
  • Set up a Facebook fundraiser by following instructions HERE
  • Click HERE for a printable pledge form to collect in-person donations

8. How long can I raise money online?

Walk prizes will be awarded for money collected through Walk day, Saturday, September 17.  However, if you want to keep helping the animals online, the site will be up and running for one week after Walk With The Animals.

9. How can I include monies raised off-line on my online total?

All monies you raise, both online and off-line, will count toward your overall total. If you have off-line pledges, you can bring them to the Walk and they will be added in, or you can add them on your fundraising page so they show toward your goal (and bring them on the day of the Walk).

10. What if someone wants a receipt for their tax-deductible donation?

If someone requests a receipt for tax purposes, please have them EMAIL shelter staff or call the shelter at (651)982-0240 ext 305 and one will be mailed to them.

11. What are the prizes for collecting pledges?

Although any amount will be put to good use in helping the many animals in our care, a minimum donation or pledge collection of $50 is required to receive a Walk t-shirt. Prizes will accumulate at the levels of $100, $250, $500, and $1000.

12. Are dogs the only animals welcome at the Walk?

No. Although dogs are the primary pets to arrive at the Walk, we have had many others attend…guinea pigs in strollers, cats on leashes, goats, sugar gliders, lizards, and styling miniature horses!

13. Can I still come to the Walk if I don’t have an animal to bring?

Absolutely! Many people choose to come enjoy the day without their pets, either because they don’t have an animal of their own, or the activity of the day would be too stressful for their animal.

14. Can I borrow a shelter dog to bring to the Walk?

No. We are not able to allow shelter dogs to be taken to the Walk due to insurance reasons.

15. Who can I contact for more information about Northwoods Humane Society and/or the Walk with the Animals?
