Lost & Found Pets

Petco Love Lost, our official lost & found reporting tool, uses facial recognition software to search for lost or found pets nationwide. It is free and easy to use- click here to see found pets in our care.

  1. Report your lost pet on Petco Love Lost.
  2. Search the area your pet was lost. Walk or drive through your neighborhood several times each day. Ask neighbors, letter carriers, and delivery people if they have seen your pet. Create lost pet flyers and post them.
  3. Share your lost pet flyer on social platforms and websites geared to reunite pets and people.
  4. Check with local shelters and animal control agencies and notify nearby veterinary clinics. Visit the stray animal listings at least once per day. Minnesota law requires stray animals only be held for five days.
  5. Be alert to pet recovery scams. When talking to a stranger who claims to have found your pet, ask them to describe the pet thoroughly before you offer any of your information. If they do not include the identifying characteristic you left out of the advertisements, they may not really have your pet.

Recent data suggests that many lost pets are found within just a few blocks of their homes. Here’s three things to do if you have found a pet:

  1. Upload a photo of the found pet to Petco Love Lost.
  2. Scan the found animal for a microchip. Most veterinary clinics and shelters have microchip scanners. Enter the microchip number into the Microchip Registry Lookup and call the company that populates from the search. They may have the owner’s information.
  3. Make a bright, readable flyer about the pet you have found and post them around your area.
